At James Bateman Middle School, we are committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all our students.

Inspired by successful initiatives from other schools, we are excited to announce the re-launch of our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors (ABAs) programme, which aims to actively tackle bullying and promote kindness and respect within our school community.

Why Anti-Bullying Ambassadors?

We believe that students are powerful agents of change. By empowering our pupils to become Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, we can create a culture of peer support and accountability. Our ABAs will play a crucial role in helping us achieve our goal of making bullying a thing of the past.

What are we changing this year for Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors?

We are implementing several new initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of our ABAs and to make anti-bullying a priority at our school:

• Training for the ABAs: Our ambassadors will receive comprehensive training to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to identify and respond to bullying effectively.
• New Reporting System: We are introducing a streamlined reporting system that allows students to confidentially report bullying incidents, ensuring that all concerns are taken seriously and addressed promptly.
• Bigger ABA Team: We are expanding our team of Anti-Bullying Ambassadors to ensure that every student has access to support and guidance from their peers.
• Theme Days to Share the Message: Throughout the year, we will host theme days focused on raising awareness about bullying and promoting positive behaviour.
• Anti-Bullying Week Assembly: We will organise a special assembly during Anti-Bullying Week to reinforce our commitment to tackling bullying and celebrate the efforts of our ABAs.
• Making Anti-Bullying a Priority: We are dedicated to making anti-bullying a core value at James Bateman Middle School, ensuring that it is always part of our conversations and actions.
• Drop-Ins for Pupils: Regular drop-in sessions will be available for students to talk with ABAs about any bullying concerns they may have in a safe and supportive environment.
• Worry and Sorry Boxes: We will set up worry and sorry boxes around the school where students can anonymously express their concerns or offer apologies to others, fostering a culture of empathy and understanding.
• More Responsibility: Our ABAs will be given additional responsibilities, empowering them to lead initiatives and campaigns that promote kindness and respect.
• Friendship Sessions: We will facilitate friendship sessions to help students build positive relationships and develop social skills that discourage bullying.
• Renovating the ‘Friendship Bench’: We plan to renovate our friendship bench to make it a welcoming and inclusive space for students looking to make friends or seek support.

Working Together to Create a Safe Environment

We are excited about these new initiatives and believe that, together with our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, we can make a significant impact in creating a safe and inclusive school environment. Our ABAs will be instrumental in spreading the message that bullying is never acceptable and that kindness should always prevail.
