Careers
Career Education at James Bateman
We recognise that one of the key purposes of education is to help support students in developing a rewarded and successful career.
We use the Gatsby Benchmark tools to support us in that aim. https://www.goodcareerguidance.org.uk/benchmarks-and-background
Our offer includes:
Careers Fayre
We team up with the High School and students are invited to the careers fayre where a number of employers are able to speak about potential career pathways.
Curriculum and Careers links
Explicit lessons that link subjects to careers are planned for our year 8 students. Teachers facilitate workshops for students to explore career paths and consider their options.
Enterprise days
Each year we have an enterprise day. During the preceding week, each form develops a product or service to sell at the enterprise day. This help students developing a conceptual understanding of profit and loss; working together to create a successful business. We also invite parents and the local community to come along and spend their money!
PSHE
Careers are explored as part of our school PSHE curriculum. Students discuss life and career aspirations and personal strengths and skills for employment. Pupils will also explore stereotypes, routes into careers and the importance of an online presence.
