Home-learning overview.
We recognise that our students work really hard in school and that their time away from school should be spent with family and friends. We also think that in order to support their learning in school, a measured approach to home-learning is necessary. We’ve thought carefully about this balance.
How will it work?
All students will have a home-learning book. At the front of the book will be space to put their usernames and passwords for the various online programs we have on offer. KS3 Students will also be given an overview sheet of home-learning for the foundation subjects for the term. These will be posted on our website.
Years 5&6
In years 5&6, student will have home-learning that supports their lessons in English, Maths and Science. Tasks will be given to them and they will be instructed to complete them in their home-learning book or on the sheets provided.
English and Maths home-learning will be given weekly. Science will be given at appropriate intervals to support learning back in school. We also expect students to be reading at home for 15 minutes each day.
Years 7&8
In years 7&8, student will have home-learning that supports their lessons in English, Maths and Science. They will also be given one piece of home learning per term for all other subjects. Tasks will be given to them and they will be instructed to complete them in their home-learning book, on the sheets provided or in another format that will be clearly stated.
English and Maths home-learning will be given weekly. Science will be given at appropriate intervals to support learning back in school. We also expect students to be reading at home for 20 minutes each day.
Working together
We hope you’ll support your child in completing home-learning to a high standard and in turn we will be providing a home-learning club back in school. Students who complete their home-learning will be rewarded through house points which they’ll be able to spend at the school shop! We’re also very keen to hear parental feedback and at the end of the term, I’ll be sending out a questionnaire to gauge the success of the home learning approach and make any necessary improvements.
