Here at James Bateman we are avid readers, and our well-stocked library is the very heart of our school.

Every class has a weekly time scheduled in the library to read independently, read with a member of staff and peruse the shelves for their next exciting book. In addition, the library is bustling with activity every lunchtime, be it with book clubs, independent readers curled up in a comfy chair immersed in a story, or friends sharing their opinions on their latest reads.

Our incredible librarian, Mrs Shelley is on hand to offer support and suggestions in finding a gripping book. 

Our fantastic Reading Crew – a group of student representatives from all classes – works tirelessly to promote reading across the school. Part of their role is to gather suggestions for new book purchases and to promote new books in our library. Their invaluable input means that our library stock is chosen by students for students.
