Year 8

Welcome to Year 8

IPhoto of Mr Champ am Mr Champ, the current Year 8 Progress Leader.

As I am sure you are aware, Year 8 is the final year that students will spend at James Bateman, and it is my aim to make it as enjoyable and trouble free as possible.

By Year 8 pupils are well versed in the values that make our school great, and it gives me great pleasure to help select the responsible pupils who show lots of respect to the position of school prefect.

Events & Activities

We encourage high standards of behaviour in Year 8 and as a reward we offer many Picture of students on their residential trip to Londonexciting trips and events as rewards throughout the year. Rewards on offer include; ice-skating and the cinema, a trip to Alton Towers and much more.  We encourage students to attend our curriculum trips for example to the theatre, the slavery museum in Liverpool, The prefects were recently invited to the Methodist Church in Biddulph to take part in their harvest service. It was a thoroughly enjoyable event and the pupils were a credit to the school.  This year, the Year 8 Residential taking place is a 5-day trip to Edinburgh where students will travel via train to experience the sights and culture of the Scottish capital city!

Transition

It can be daunting for the pupils in Year 8 knowing that they will soon be moving to a new school, but I make sure that we work closely with Biddulph High and other local schools to ensure that transition into Year 9 is a smooth process. As part of the process, throughout the year, we undertake lots of meetings to discuss the move between schools and offer a series of transition days and individual subject afternoons where pupils get the opportunity to experience a high school environment.
